Fall Sports – More Than Just Football

Even though the calendar doesn’t quite agree, from a sports perspective, fall is here. On the national scene, it’s really obvious with the start of the NFL and college football seasons, and the pennant chases in Major League Baseball. Locally, fall sports are quickly ramping up. You’ll see more running events as temperatures begin to wane. The Wild’s hockey season will be starting soon, and of course, school sports hit the ground running. Most of the media attention surrounds football, but keep in mind there are other school fall sports that offer multiple choices for spectators. Girl’s volleyball is a great example, as it has really picked up steam the past several years. The level of skill and intensity has resulted in several teams playing before large and enthusiastic crowds. Fall is also the season for girl’s soccer. Many of the players are now year-round participants, increasing their skill level by taking advantage of the many amateur soccer associations throughout the Wenatchee Valley. Boys and girls cross country and in some districts, girls swim & dive are also on the menu. Many of the sports have competitions in mid-week, so if you’re looking for events to take in, you can pretty much find one just about any day.
New seasons are a great time to get motivated and enjoy new experiences. Besides supporting youth athletics, it may also give you exposure to activities that you can enjoy for years to come.
